Boiling water, or a mix of baking soda and vinegar, can help with minor build-up if you use it regularly as a preventative measure. We’d steer clear of chemical drain cleaners, as they can damage older pipes and aren’t always safe if the blockage doesn’t clear straight away. If a drain doesn’t clear after a wash or two, it’s best to have a plumber take a look before it becomes a bigger problem.

We service all locations from Gawler to Hahndorf, all the way down to Victor Harbour, metro Adelaide and everywhere in between.

Usually it just comes down to distance: the further your tap is from the hot water system, the more cold water sitting in the pipes has to run through before hot water reaches you. It can also be a sign your hot water system is ageing or running less efficiently. If it’s taking noticeably longer than it used to, it’s worth having it checked.

This is commonly known as “water hammer”, and it happens when water flow is suddenly stopped or redirected, sending a shockwave through the pipes. It’s usually caused by loose pipes, worn valves, or higher-than-normal water pressure. It’s not normally dangerous, but it’s worth getting checked, since over time it can loosen fittings or damage pipework.

Some simple things, like using a plunger on a minor blockage, are fine to try yourself. But most plumbing, gas, and electrical work in South Australia must be carried out by a licensed tradesperson, both for your safety and to meet legal requirements. If you’re ever unsure, or the problem doesn’t clear quickly, it’s best to call us rather than risk making it worse.
